The standard of 70ºC is only an issue when a product is subjected to prolonged heating for more than two hours. It's safe to use melamine products with food at a higher temperature as long as this is for less than two hours.
However, in practice, your food will never stay hot for more than a few minutes, so you can continue to use your dinnerware safely. Yes, this is not a problem. The dinnerware may be exposed briefly (less than 2 hours) to a temperature above 70ºC, so a hot wash in your dishwasher won't cause any problems. The temperature of your dishwasher's hot wash program is usually only high for a short time. Here are some tips to help you remove coffee and tea stains from your cups and beakers:
Tip 1: Dissolve a denture tablet or dishwasher tablet in hot water and leave it in the product for 24 hours. You can repeat this process a few times if necessary. Never use anything abrasive like cream cleaners or scouring pads. This will damage the product and make stains build up even faster.
Tip 2: Add a squirt of lemon juice to the product and fill it with boiling water. Let it stand for 24 hours. You can repeat this process a few times if necessary. Afterwards, brush off the deposits with a washing-up brush.
We advise against pouring boiling water directly into these products. We recommend using water that is 'off the boil'.
